Event: Spiral Yoga Workshop - Optimizing Movement for Joint Health with Dr. Karen Kirkness
Date: Sunday, April 14th from 10:00am-12:00pm Cost: $45 Register Here Join Dr. Karen Kirkness for two hours of invigorating movement exploring how joint systems move in spiral continuity. This workshop promises to be fun and light-hearted yet thoroughly steeped in Karen's 20+ year study of the body. You'll learn a little about biomechanics and a lot about how your unique body can feel strong and mobile through gentle, spiral movement sequences in coordination with mindful breathing. To get the most out of the experience, practitioners should feel comfortable getting onto floor level and have an adequate range of motion for sustained matwork. Dr. Karen Kirkness hails from Sarasota. She moved to Scotland in 2003, founding Meadowlark Yoga in Edinburgh after her first trip to Mysore, India where she studied Ashtanga Yoga with the Jois family over two decades. She now holds an MFA & MSc in Human Anatomy from the University of Edinburgh and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Medical Sciences from Hull York Medical School. Her research is based on complexity science applications in the medical curriculum, especially how anatomy pedagogy informs health professions education outcomes. Karen is a committed movement educator passionate about facilitating healthy outcomes through guided self-practice. Her work as a movement researcher looks at rotational biomechanics in terms of the Five Filaments, the spiral motion rubric that Dr. Kirkness coined in her book, Spiral Bound: Integrated Anatomy for Yoga. She now lives in the Scottish Borders with her husband and two feisty kids. |
